Blog: Winch Dummy
Part One So it's 8:30am, I'm in Wellington and it is really really windy and rainy, they are expecting thunder and lightening today. To be honest looking outside I'm quite scared!
After reading the posts from yesterday I had a great idea. I'd really like everyone to leave messages about what YOUR fears are, what makes YOU uncomfortable, even better if you could go out today and do one of your fears and then report back on how you felt. I challenge you to become part of the 30 fears Community, leave messages for each other of support - this is what Discovery is all about.
Talk to you after I've been the dope on the rope...
Part TwoToday was the most amazing experience I have ever had in my life. It is so challenging to put into words the feeling of getting winched of the ground up to a helicopter. The nerves that went through my body as I stood on the ground and looked up at this helicopter were intense, the trees around me were blowing and the noise from the helicopter was deafening. It was like being in a war zone! I felt really vulnerable and just had to trust in the guys that it was all safe and I'd be OK. The guys from the Lifeflight Westpac Rescue Helicopter are amazing; they lean out of helicopters and rescue people from the most intense situations, they come across as just everyday average guys, however if there are true heroes in NZ then it's them! It was my first flight in a helicopter also which had some dicey moments, especially in Wellington weather!
A whole lot of things didn't go to plan today including the Wellington weather lol and it was amazing for me to note my reaction. I started to get frustrated about the little details then I thought about goals and the reality of trying to achieve them and realised, hey life doesn't always work out how you want it to, things don't always go to plan. It's not about the things that happen to us in life it's how we deal with them that matter. So I chose to just let it go, everything happens for a reason and everything works out in the end. It's about believing 100% in your overall goal, it's about not sweating the small stuff and just going with the flow. I also feel so amazing at the moment that I believe 100% that becoming comfortable being uncomfortable is the best decision I have ever made... as you can see todays experience, and the experiences of the last two weeks, have started to have a major impact on how I view life and myself. Right now I feel like a million bucks! Trust me if YOU start stepping outside YOUR comfort zone and challenging yourself YOU will feel like a million bucks too!
Right it's 5:30pm and I'm going for a nap lol
