Blog: Sky Wire
So the second of my overcoming my fear of heights challenges! I wasn't sure how to approach this one, I had heard mixed things about how scary the Sky Wire at Happy Valley Adventures was going to be so I just decided to go out there and enjoy it – to just feel the fear and do it anyway. End result: I loved it! It was so much fun, the people out there are really friendly and made the whole experience great.
The sky wire is the longest flying fox in the world at 1.6km and it can reach up to 100km an hour. The views from up in the valley though are just amazing and Nelson truly is one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand – and it's only 15 minutes from the centre of town! Which was lucky because I was almost late for my 2pm meeting.
I went first and then Sarah (RadioWorks), Duncan (Sprocket Web Design) and Fraser (Duo Media) went with me. Interesting thing was Fraser and Duncan were amped about going but once they actually started on it their fear of heights kicked in and they had a few hairy moments lol. It highlighted just how much our perceived fear influences our behaviour and then how we relate to the experiences we have. So I'm learning that if I can change my state of mind it will change the experience that I have which will then change the way I feel about future experiences. (I tried to communicate this on camera however I think I failed miserably.)
I am fully amped about tomorrow and the drag walk (wait till you see the Pricilla Queen of the Desert costume). So if you can make it down to the church steps at 12pm come help me collect money for the Discovery programme – because that's what this is all about!
